Participating in the recent three-day child protection training at Shiloh Church Namugongo was not only educational but deeply eye-opening.
Beyond policies, safeguarding frameworks, and prevention strategies, the training created space for honest reflection about the realities children face in our communities. One of the most striking personal lessons was the deeper understanding of the challenges affecting children in Palisa District.
It became increasingly clear that vulnerability is often rooted in everyday conditions. Many children continue to face limited access to essential services that are fundamental to their well-being and development. Key concerns highlighted include:
- Limited access to reliable healthcare services
- Inadequate availability of clean and safe water
- Insufficient educational resources and institutions
These challenges extend beyond statistics — they represent lived experiences that directly shape a child’s health, safety, and future opportunities.
The training reinforced an important truth: child protection is not only about shielding children from harm. It is also about addressing the systemic gaps that contribute to vulnerability. Safe environments must be supported by access to healthcare, education, and basic necessities.
This experience served as a powerful reminder that meaningful child protection requires both awareness and action. Protecting children means advocating for conditions that allow them to grow, learn, and thrive with dignity.
